Export tracks with quantized beatgrid

When the TEMPO LANE is set Auto, it will follow the swing of the old disco track. So the gray lines dictate the tempo. Adding samples to it will follow the groove of the old track. Super for re-drumming.

Switching the TEMPO LANE to manual will set the tempo to a manually fixed tempo. This means the tempo lane is dictating a fixed tempo. Every individual beat of the old song will be aligned to the fixed tempo. We still keep a swing, but within 1%. If you export this track now it will be straightened and perfect to mix in a live performance application.

Now, it will always follow the TEMPO LANE, so if you do crazy things to the tempo, it will follow it perfectly!

an another example with Come on Eileen:

With the track “Come on Eileen” of Dexies Midnight Runners, you can see very clearly how DJ.Studio handles tempo.

By default, The tempo lane is set to Auto. This means that the mix will follow the tempo of the decks. Come on Eileen is going from 107 to 214 BPM. It was an extreme leap.

The gray line in the background is the real tempo. If you layer another track or a sample on top of it, then it will be aligned with this track. It will follow the tempo of every individual beat. That is what we call Swing or Groove. DJ.Studio will cut the original track in pieces of 1 beat. The overlayed track also gets cut in 1-beat pieces and overlayed over this track. With AI we stretch or shrink the beats to make them the same length. This way, we can follow old music with modern tracks or samples on top of it.

Now, if you don't want to follow the Swing of the track but want to straighten the track to export it as fixed beats, then switch the Tempo Lane to Manual. Now the Tempo Lane is leading and any tempo you draw in there will lead the mix. If you draw a straight line of 107 BPM then the whole song will get straightend to 107 BPM. With a variation of a half % to keep some swing but perfect enough for mixing. You can also go crazy and Draw a different tempo. here you see that I reversed the tempo of the track. The fast part is slow now, and the buildup is much earlier. Nobody on the dancefloor expects that ;-)
