If you have a Mixed in Key Pro 11 license, you can use MIK Pro 11 to discover great track combinations for mashup ideas which you can bring to DJ.Studio to create the mashup with one click.

How to explore mashup ideas in MIK 11 Pro

How to export a mashup idea from MIK 11 Pro to DJ.Studio

To export your mashup from MIK 11 Pro to DJ.Studio, you need to

  • Save your mashup in MIK 11 Pro

  • Go to favorite mashups in the left side navigation (1)

  • Select your mashup in the list of mashups (2)

  • Click Open in DJ.Studio (3)

When you Export your mashup to DJ.Studio:

  1. A mashup project is created in DJ.Studio

  2. The tracks are imported

  3. The tracks overlap at the mix in point you choose in MIK 11 Pro

  4. any additional key changes you made in MIK are also sent over,

Any stem separation that you selected in MIK are not sent over to DJ.Studio.

DJ.Studio needs to have the full tracks to detect the correct BPM and beat grid. So it is not useful to send over a clean A capella, because that will make it harder to use the track in DJ.Studio and also limit the functionality in DJ.Studio.

Tips for making a mashup in DJ.Studio

  1. When you are in mashup mode in DJ.Studio, the audio that is in the master lane dictates the tempo. So if you have a track where you want to use the instrumental or the bass, put that track on the Master lane.

  2. If you have created an acapella from a track, put that on the Sample lanes, so that the tempo will be dictated by the track in the master lane/

So ideally you would have the Instrumental in the first lane and the vocal in the second lane.

  3. First check the beat grids of the tracks, before you start stem separating tracks.
When you stem separate a track, the beatgrid gets copied over, so if you check it once, you can rely on the beat gridding of each sample that you create afterwards.

Open the Track tab and check in the left bottom corner at Beatgrid if it makes sense.
    - If you have an electronic music track, the Fixed beatgrid makes most sense
    - If you have non-4-to -the-floor music, like disco, the AI beatgrid makes most sense, but you can always try the AI Flex too, just to see which grid looks better

You can check a beatgrid by opening the Tempo lane in the left bottom corner below the sample lanes to see how the grid looks.
You should also zoom in to the waveform till you see the beatmarkers, so you can check if they are located at the right position.

  4. Check if the keys of the tracks match harmonically.
If you used MIK PRO 11 to generate mashup ideas, you probably already made sure that the keys match or are close to each other.
You can always transpose a track or sample in DJStudio by clicking on the key icon in the left top corner of the audio files in the Studio.

  5. Create stem separated samples from your tracks and move them to the right location.
For more precise control, click the Zoom tab in the bottom tabs and zoom in to the waveform.

  6. Use Volume fades to mix two different parts behind each other
