Why Upgrade to DJ.Studio 4.0?

DJ.Studio 4.0 isn’t just an update, it’s a complete rebuild in many areas.

You’ll get:

  • A new audio engine

  • A new and improved stem separation system

  • A rebuilt beat grid editor for better control.

  • An improved library with more integrations.

  • Creative new options for effects and samples.

  • Elastique pro extension for high level

  • More export options for every workflow.

All while keeping your existing mixes and database safe and compatible.

Stems: Faster, Clearer, Smarter

We’ve completely reworked how stems are generated and used in DJ.Studio 4.0.

  • Higher-quality models: New stem separation models deliver higher quality, cleaner vocals, drums, bass, and instruments.

  • Faster processing: Stems load much quicker.

  • Full-track stems: Stems are now created for the entire track, not just the transitions. This makes editing and automation the same in tracks and transitions.
You can show 4 stems view, 2 stems view and the regular waveform.

  • Better visuals: Stem waveforms have improved colors, so it’s easier to see what’s happening at a glance.

  • Automation lines on stems: Add volume automation directly on individual stems.

  • Playback while processing: Stems generate now in the background so no long waits before the entire track is separated.

This means you can experiment with vocals, swapping out basslines, or creating breakdowns with much less delays and better sound quality.

The beat grid editor has been redesigned from scratch for precision and ease of use.

Old problems solved:

  • Dragging the waveform used to move the whole grid by accident.

  • Switching between grid/time view was confusing.

  • UI was clunky, making automation edits impossible in beat grid view.

  • Users didn’t realize that touching the waveform moved the entire beat grid, not just a single beat — often leading to unintended changes.

New system:

  • The waveform is clearly visible, now shown in a slightly different color

  • Automations are now also visible in beatgrid view

  • Beats are no longer directly draggable, instead, you get a pop-up menu with clear options:

    • Drag or reset individual beats

    • Adjust the full grid

    • Move beats forward/backward in the timeline

    • Set downbeat or first beat marker

    • Apply fixed BPM over the track, or set BPM from a point for tempo changes

    • Reset to original AI/fixed grid if needed

Checkout this article for the detailed description how these buttons gives you precise control and prevents accidental mistakes. Perfect for aligning tricky tracks, live recordings, or songs with tempo shifts.

Improved Library & Integrations

The library has been upgraded to make it easier to browse, manage, and discover tracks.

  • New home screen layout: All library features are clearly listed, so you can quickly jump to your collection, playlists, or integrations.

  • Charts tab: Browse trending music directly inside DJ.Studio.

Check the Top 100 Charts for inspiration

Expanded integrations:

  • Beatport & Beatsource Shop: Browse, preview, and buy tracks directly inside DJ.Studio. Previews can be swapped seamlessly with purchased full tracks via Legalize Mix.

  • Spotify matching: Paste a Spotify link, and DJ.Studio will automatically find the track on Beatport or Beatsource, which was added to this conversion.

  • Crate Hackers: browse Crate Hackers playlists

This makes DJ.Studio a true hub for your music, whether tracks come from your computer, Beatport, or other DJ software.

Improved Tools & Effects

We’ve added more flexibility and creative power to help shape your mixes.

  • EQ Effect Block: EQ can now be used as an effect, placed in blocks, and saved as reusable presets.

  • Improved effects workflow: FX blocks resize and move consistently, even on stems and sample lanes.

  • Sample upgrades: Add fade handles for quick Volume fade in&outs, copy samples with their effects, and move multiple samples while keeping their timing.

More options = more creativity when building mashups, remixes, or detailed transitions.

Export Options

Exporting has become more flexible and powerful.

  • Improved exports: Re-pitch is now always applied to ensure consistent sound quality. The "Use limiter" has moved from the Export screen to the Master tab.

  • Rekordbox & Serato export with edits: Cuts, loops, and pasted sections are now included when you export to Rekordbox.

  • More formats:

    • WAV/FLAC with selectable bit depth

    • M3U playlists

  • Ableton export: Now supports manual transitions

Performance & Workflow

We’ve optimized DJ.Studio for speed and smoother day-to-day use.

  • Apple Silicon Macs: Stems up to 75% faster on M1/M2 processors.

  • Windows: Smarter GPU handling — auto-selects best GPU and uses DirectML fallback if needed.

  • UI performance: Home screen loads faster, zooming and navigation are smoother.

  • New Update System: At Settings > General you can choose for automatic or manual downloads. Updates apply on restart, and you’ll always see when one is available.

Incompatibilities between DJ.Studio 3.1 and 4.0

It is important to be aware of the following differences between Dj.Studio 3.1 and DJ.Studio 4.0:

  1. DJ.Studio 4.0 does not have a Vinyl brake effect yet.
If you have used the Vinyl brake in projects and you export the project with DJ.Studio 4.0, the effect will not be applied, potentially messing up your transition

  2. In DJ.Studio 4.0 we removed the stems block because it didn't work like it should (you could only grab the handles on 1 side of the block and it didn't support volume automations per stem).
In DJ.Studio 4.0 you can now enable stems on the full track and then either mute a stem for a small part or use the volume automation lines for more advanced control.

  3. In DJ.Studio 3.1 Echo/Reverb effect on Samples were hearable after the end of the sample. In DJ.Studio 4.0 we introduced the concept of "dragging the effect outside of the sample", allowing you to define exactly how long the effect should last.
This means that Echo/reverb effects that you configured in 3.1 will stop immediately after the sample stops, unless you made it longer yourself.

More detailed release notes

The DJ.Studio team has worked on this DJ.Studio 4.0 release since April, so there are a lot of things that got improved.
Below is a more detailed list, but this list doesn't describe every change because then the list would become too long ;-)

Audio Engine

  1. [changed] Export > Repitch audio settings has been removed. Repitch is now always applied automatically during export, because it could only lead to bad sounding exports if you disabled this setting.

  2. [changed] Export > Use limiter setting has been removed. The limiter setting on the Master tab will be applied

  3. [new] You can use stem separation with Vinyl mode and Beatslice mode

Updated timeline

  1. [new] Settings > Interface > Appearance: Choose the waveform style you want to see.

  2. [improved] Cuts and duplicate sections are better visible

  3. [new] Recognize Stem separated samples now via the color of the waveform

  4. [improved] Grippers to move tracks in the transition now look like <>

  5. [new] Added quick volume fades in your samples. Use the white squares in the top right corners of the sample to drag the volume fade in and fade out.

Stem separation

  1. [new] Stems are now always created for whole tracks.

  2. [new] Add volume automation lines per stems

  3. [removed] stem blocks because they didn't have enough features: you could only grab the handles on 1 side of the block and it didn't support volume automations per stem.
In DJ.Studio 4.0 you can now enable stems on the full track and then either mute a stem for a small part or use the volume automation lines for more advanced control.

  4. [improved] Performance improvements on Windows

    • Intel GPU support. 3x speed on old tablet, 500% faster than before

    • AMD support: On mid range AMD we reach 10x speed which is 1000% faster than before

    • NVIDIA speed is a tiny bit slower but with NVIDIA 5000 support

    • Download Stems models went from over 3GB to only 300mb

  5. [improved] Performance improvements on Mac

  • M1 Macbook Pro from 16x to 28x speed. 75% faster for Demucs

  • No optimization for Intel Mac.

  • HQ models are now faster than Demucs.

  1. [new] The beat grid editor has changed. This article explains all of those changes

  2. [changed] The way how to define a mix tempo has changed a little.

Previously in 3.1 : Tempo lane > Manual > Set mix tempo
Now in 4.0 : Simply go to Tempo lane > click Fixed to set a fixed tempo for your whole mix.

Music discovery

We added lots of charts for music discovery:

You will also see the new Beatsource and Beatport library screen (more about the new features below).

In the Spotify tab, you can still paste your Spotify URL, but we now automatically search both Beatport and Beatsource.

Lastly, we have a new awesome Charts tab.

Export options : Serato, tracks edits and higher bit depth

  1. You can now choose bit depth for WAV and FLAC export.

  2. We added the option to export edited tracks to rekordbox. When you go to Export > Rekordbox and enable Include Track Edits, cuts, pastes, and loops will be exported.

  3. Export DJ Set to Serato including hot cues and Edits

VST

  1. [Fixed] Issue where a VST would activate on the wrong deck or remain active across different mixes.

  2. [Fixed] Issue where CPU-intensive plugins could crash the studio or cause lag when moved.

  3. [Fixed] Audio glitch when exporting with certain VSTs.

Mixed in Key

  1. [New] Mixed In Key Integration: support for Mixed In Key folder hierarchy and subfolders.

  2. [New] Mixed in Key 11 Pro integration where you can use Mixed in Key 11 Pro to find great mashup ideas and export them to DJ.Studio with one click.

Smaller improvements and fixes

  1. [Improved] Trackpad control in the Studio: Pinch to zoom with the trackpad has been improved to be much smoother.
