DJ.Studio now has its own phrase detection algorithm. Previously, phrases were only available for tracks imported via rekordbox (using rekordbox's own phrase data); tracks from any other source had no phrase information.
With DJ.Studio 5.0, every track gets analyzed into phrases such as intros, verses, choruses, buildups, and drops, regardless of where it came from. This helps you understand the structure of the track, find better mix in/out points, and lays the groundwork for smarter harmonizing based on song structure; see the Harmonize section for more.
When you drag tracks within transitions, they'll snap to phrases. You can also right-click a phrase to edit, split, delete, or change its type.
DJ.Studio's own phrase detection is enabled automatically for all tracks.
Mixed in Key energy segment analysis is now disabled by default. You can re-enable it at Settings > Libraries > Mixed in Key > Settings.
If you'd rather use rekordbox's phrase data instead of DJ.Studio's own detection (for tracks imported via rekordbox), you can switch that at Settings > Interface > Phrases.
Harmonize with phrase mixing
This phrase data also powers new ways to place transitions in Harmonize. Harmonize's new Mix on step offers several ways to decide where each transition starts and ends:
Bars (classic): the original method. Counts a fixed number of bars from the start and end of each track. The only option that doesn't need phrase data.
Intro/outro overlap: the outro of one track blends into the intro of the next, and that overlap sets the transition length automatically. Best for long, natural-sounding blends.
Phrase position: mixes in and out on a specific musical phrase, counted from the start or end of the track, so every transition lands on a natural musical boundary instead of a random bar count.
Song structure: mixes on the actual structure of the song, after the intro, at the first buildup, drop, or chorus, or at the outro, last drop, or last breakdown. Ideal for energy-driven sets where a drop needs to land on time.
