DJ.Studio has a powerful library manager that allows you to import, organize, and sort your music collection - making it easy to find and add songs to your mix.
The library is the interface for managing imported music in DJ.Studio and browsing your machine’s music libraries, allowing you to access connected DJ libraries, tracks added to DJ.Studio, and folders on your computer—just like a typical file explorer.
If you add tracks to a DJ.Studio Mix or Mashup, the tracks will be added to the library automatically.
Adding Tracks to Your Library
There are three ways to add tracks to your library.
DJ.Studio's Internal File Explorer
With DJ.Studio's Internal File Explorer you can browse your local file system and gather the tracks that you want to add to your mix.
Open the Library from the Home screen of the app or via the Main header navigation if you are in a Mix or Mashup project.
Navigate to the Explorer tab to browse your PC's file system.
Browse through your folders to find tracks in your library. Open folder by clicking on the > symbol.
On the right you see the list of tracks in that specific folder.
Click on a row to select it and click the Play button in the left bottom corner to play the song and listen to it. You can even scrub through the waveform to listen to other parts of the song.
Click the + button a the end of each row to add tracks to your selection.
Import the selected songs into your DJ.Studio Mix or Mashup project with the yellow button in the bottom right corner.
B) Drag-Drop Import:
Open the library.
Find files you want to import in your PC's browser (Finder/Windows Explorer)
Drag and drop files into the DJ.Studio interface. They will now be imported.
Either drag and drop new files in, or use the file browser to locate tracks.
C) Add Tracks Button:
Open a DJ.Studio Local File project.
In the lower-left corner, click Add Tracks.
Follow the instructions on the screen to import music to your library, and the project.
Local File System
DJ.Studio lets you browse the contents of your hard drive, to find and import music.
Open this simply by clicking the Library tab, in the left navigation bar of the home screen, or in the header of a project.
The first tab Library, shows you your native local files in DJ.Studio, you will also see other tabs for any connected software.
The navigation bar shows the following items:
Collection: This works the same as it did, showing all the tracks you have recently added to projects/mixes.
Explorer: Allows you to access all your folders and music tracks on your machine, from within DJ.Studio, just like what the Finder or the Explorer on your machine will show. You can look for tracks you want to use, without having to add them to your DJS library.
You can Pin music folders you want easier access to by clicking the pin icon that appears on hover
Add external drives to your library explorer by clicking the + icon
Playlists: you can make your own playlists with tracks from your (local) library and/or integrations. Select the tracks you want to add, click the right mouse button and choose whether you want to create a new playlist or add them to an existing one.
Note: a playlist is only available from within the DJ.Studio library, this is not a mix. It’s a selection of tracks that you might want to use for a mix later on.
Analyze Tracks
Sometimes tracks in your library don't display the BPM and Key information, which makes it hard to know if they are compatible in your mix.
You can easily analyze any track in your library to reveal the information.
Locate the track you want to analyze
Right-click, and select Analyze
Wait for the analysis to complete, and you will now see the BPM and key information
Connecting Your Other DJ Software
You can connect DJ.Studio to a range of other popular DJ apps like rekordbox, Serato, Traktor, Engine DJ and Virtual DJ. This lets you use your playlists that you created in your music library inside DJ.Studio.
Find out how to connect your other DJ software using out specific guides: 3rd Party Integration Guides.
After you’ve connected your library, make sure it is enabled in the settings menu. If so, the connected library will show up as a tab in DJ.Studio’s main library view.
Browsing the Library
The library has several features which make it easy to find the song you need.
Browse your device folders
You can use the tabs to browse different library divisions
Use the top bar to sort tracks by Title, Artist, Length, Key, BPM, and use count.
The use count shows you how many times you've used a track in your projects, which is a helpful indicator to keep your sets fresh and original.
Deleting Tracks From Your Library
You can easily remove tracks from your recently used library if you no longer need them.
In library view, right mouse click the track you want to delete.
Click Delete from library
You will be asked to confirm your choice of deleting the track.
Do note that this will only visually remove the tracks from the library.
Frequently asked questions about the music library in DJ.Studio
How can I import all of my tracks in DJ.studio?
You should not import all of your tracks into DJ.Studio. DJ.Studio is not a music library tool by itself. If you add tracks to a DJ.Studio Mix or Mashup, the tracks will be added to the library automatically.
At the moment, every track that you "import" in DJ.Studio will be copied to the DJ.Studio database. That's why you don't want to add all of your tracks in DJ.Studio, because it will take a lot of disk space.
The DJ.Studio team is in the process of changing this mechanism, so that we won't copy files anymore, but only import the reference to the file location. This is a large project because we need to make sure that DJ.Studio won't crash if you, by accident, moved a file to another location. Those checks have to be added to a lot of places in our codebase.
For now you can use the Local file system in DJ.Studio to analyze all of your tracks without copying them into your DJ.Studio database.
