Causes for Stems installation issues

DJ.Studio’s Stems feature requires a separate extension that must be installed before it can be used. This extension is managed via Settings > Extensions.

On some systems, DJ.Studio may not be able to install the required extensions. In most cases, this happens because network access for DJ.Studio is blocked (for example, by a firewall, antivirus, or company network settings).

Installation and Requirements

  • Separate Extension: The Stems feature depends on an extension that isn’t bundled with the main app.

  • Network Access: On some systems, installation can fail—often because DJ.Studio is blocked from accessing the necessary network resources.
If you are on a secured network (such as at work) or using a machine with strict security settings, please make sure that DJ.Studio isn’t blocked from reaching these URLs.

  • Supported OS versions for Stems:

    MacOS Monterey 12.7.6 / Ventura 13.6.8+ / Sonoma 14.6+ / Sequoia 15+ / Tahoe 26+ (HQ options) on Intel/ARM64 CPU

    Windows 10 x64

    Windows 11 x64

Use cases

1. Issue: Extensions Screen Shows “0 Bytes” Install Size

Extension info not loading, blocked internet access of DJ.Studio

If at Settings > Extensions > Stem separation you see the install size of 0 bytes, you need to unblock DJ>Studio in your firewall.

In this case, DJ.Studio is unable to retrieve extension information.

2. Issue: Download Button Doesn’t Respond

If in Settings > Extensions > Stem separation, the Download button doesn't respond when you click and the stems extension cannot be installed, it is usually caused by one of the following:

  • Firewall blocking: Make sure DJ.Studio is allowed through your firewall or security software.

  • Insufficient disk space:

    • On macOS, the installation disk (usually Macintosh HD) needs enough free space.

    • On Windows, free space is required on the disk where your user profile is stored (usually the C: drive) or alter the Extension install location in Settings > Folders to a path with enough diskspace and read/write access.

Check your firewall settings and ensure enough disk space is available before trying again.

3. Issue: "Stems doesn't start or work"

Even when extensions install correctly, the Stems feature might fail to start in the Studio, for example, the playhead stops at the beginning of a stem part. This issue can arise from:

  • Unsupported GPU:
On Windows you can have a unsupported GPU so stems can't start.
Solution: Select CPU as device and try again. If it works, your GPU might be incompatible. Contact support and provide a logfile after you reproduced the issue.

    • Use the DJ.Studio menu: click “Help” → “Send log file.”

    • Follow the instructions and include details about the installation issue (do not restart DJ.Studio before sending the log, as this will clear it).

  • Don't meet system requirements:
Especially on macOS, the stems separation extension may fail to run if the system requirements are not met. This can happen if your macOS version or hardware does not support the extension.
Solution: Check your system requirements in the system requirements article.

Additional Help

If you continue to experience issues after trying the above solutions:

  • Logfile Submission:

    • Use the DJ.Studio menu: click “Help” → “Send log file.”

    • Follow the instructions and include details about the installation issue (do not restart DJ.Studio before sending the log, as this will clear it).
