One of the first things to do in DJ.Studio is to import music to mix with. You can import music from local files on your hard drive, and from your DJ software.

Which audio formats does DJ.Studio support?
MP3, WAV, AIFF, AIF, FLAC, M4A, ALAC, Vorbis, MP2, MP4 and WMA. New formats are added regularly.
DJ.Studio uses FFmpeg to unpack all formats other than WAV and MP3. Internally, it works with the unpacked audio in WAV quality (Float32). DJ.Studio exports at 44.1 kHz.
How do I import files from my hard drive?
Create a new mix.
The Add Tracks screen opens by itself. You can also click Add tracks on the left of the middle bar.
Click Import Local Files in the top left corner of the window.
Select the audio files in the window that opens (File Explorer on Windows, Finder on a Mac). You can also drag and drop files into the window.
Wait for the analysis to finish. Then you can start mixing with your tracks.

Create a new mix.
Open the library by clicking the Add tracks button.
Click the Explorer tab at the top of the library window.
Navigate to the folder where the tracks are
Select the tracks and add to the mix.
Wait for the analysis to finish. Then you can start mixing with your tracks.
What does DJ.Studio analyze?
While a track is analyzed, DJ.Studio determines the key, the tempo, the waveform and the beat grid of the whole track. In 5.0 it also analyzes the phrases. If you have Mixed In Key switched on, it also retrieves the key, the energy segments and the cue points from Mixed in Key.

When the import is finished, you see the tracks and their analysis in your project. The tracks are also in your DJ.Studio library, so you can use them in other projects. See Music Library.
How do I import tracks from my DJ software?
Connect your software: open Settings > Libraries and switch on the DJ software you want to connect. (In 4.x: Settings > Connections > Library.)
In the Library view or the Add Tracks screen, click your DJ software.
You may be asked to locate the folder of that software.
DJ.Studio connects to the library. You now see your playlists, and can browse your library from within DJ.Studio.
Use any of the tracks in your mix.

Apple Music tracks that can't be imported
Streaming tracks from Apple Music are protected, and DJ.Studio can't use them. In the Library, they appear with a dark red background. See Connect Apple Music or iTunes to DJ.Studio.
What do the red error messages on a track mean?
A track turns red when there is a problem importing, playing or analyzing it. The message depends on the source of the track. Where the message has a name or a path in it, it is shown here in [brackets].
Problems with the file

Frequently asked questions
I can't import more tracks. How can I go over the limit?
DJ.Studio has a soft limit of 60 tracks per project, so your computer's resources aren't overloaded. You can turn it off:
Click the cog in the top right corner to open Settings.
Go to Performance.
Turn 60 Tracks Limit off.
Only do this if your computer has enough RAM, 16GB or more.
Why does the audio stop when I look for a song to add?
DJ.Studio isn't made for live mixing, so it can only play one song at a time.
Can I record my mix from my mixer?
No. You can't record a mix from a mixer in DJ.Studio.
